Jonathan Guarino is in his fourth year with the Hawks. An experienced
defenseman, he he has been solid on the Hawk's blueline. Last year, as
in the
last two, Guarino played strong defense for the Hawks. This season, he
has been named the team captain. On January 23, 2009, in a game against
Newark East Side in the Prudential Center in Newark, Guarino
suffered a severe injury that required season-ending surgery. His loss
to the team is immense, not just on the ice, but in the locker room as
well. At the end of the season, Guarino was voted Second Team Defense
All-Division by the coaches of the Northern Blue Division. Guarino scored his first varsity in Pershing Field goal against Scotch Plains/Fanwood. On January 15, 2008, Guarino scored the first goal against Hackettstown in a 6-5 win in what would be the Hawks first win of the season. Guarino started skating at age eight in Floyd Hall and Hackensack's Ice House. Aside from playing hockey, Guarino is also a Level 3 referee. At Hudson Catholic, Guarino is an honor student and is a member of the Hudson Catholic Drama Society's stage crew. He is also a Peer Minister. Guarino has been accepted to the Physical Therapy Program at the University of Scranton, College of St. Rose and Sacred Heart University. Guarino's sister Kristina will be starting her freshman year at Hudson Catholic in the Fall and will be a member of Hudson Catholic's first co-ed class.
